A Long Walk To Water By Linda Sue Park

A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park is a revealing book on the issues faced in Sudan Africa, this book is about a young boy named Salva, and a girl named Nya. This book tells the story of the problems they face from starvation to getting lost. This book is told from different perspectives from Salva's and Nya's perspective. After an invasion on Salva's village he is ripped apart from the group and is forced to run away, the troubles faced after this are tough, I believe this was one of the most realistic books I've read in a while. From getting lost from his tribe to losing important things
this book touches you and makes you feel all the pain Salva faced.
Imagine getting lost and never seeing your family again, you have no phone, no one to help you, you're all alone. Salva was dealing with this, after his tribe was invaded he ran away and eventually met with a group of people who fed him and gave him water but they had then ditched him since he was going to slow the group down. However, what they didn't know was that Salva was a very dedicated boy who wasn't going to let anyone stand in his path of rejoining his tribe and family. After being left alone in a barn while he was sleeping he then heard peoples footsteps, they looked inside the barn and noticed him, he was then told they were apart of his tribe. After constant debate if they should take him or not they let him join the tribe to go to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. After all the hardship he faced getting there he had finally met his uncle while they were walking to Ethiopia, what he didn't know what was coming next. His uncle had been killed by the rebelling people in Sudan's civil war. Once he finally arrived he found out they were closing refugee camps a few years later so he walked to Kenya with a group of people following him, he had then arrived and found out that they were taking chosen people to the United States inside the Kenyan refugee camp. After nearly 2 years he was finally chosen and was taken to the United States and then lived a good life. However, on Nyas part of life she was always supported by her tribe but also faced hardships while traveling afar from the war. they were constantly invaded by the rebelling people of Sudan.
In the end, A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park is a very touching book which teaches you what people are facing in Africa from starvation to hunting to severely bloody massacres. I really recommend this book to anyone who likes books that include war, adventure and stories based on people. This book has really taught me to be grateful for all the things we have. People in Africa constantly face threats of enemies and have to relocate constantly, they are never settle like we are. This book also showed me how much of a struggle it is to survive with all these problems.
